Alison McGillivray, baroque cello and viola da gamba, studied in her home town of Glasgow with William Conway and in London with Jennifer Ward Clarke.  She was principal cellist and soloist with The Academy of Ancient Music and The English Concert, and is professor of baroque cello at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Smaller scale music making is currently her main focus with the groups The Bach Players, Concordia and Concerto Caledonia.  The Independent recently reviewed her solo Bach as being "among the best of the year's chamber music". She helps to run Katherine McGillivray's Get a Life Fund, a charity funding sabbaticals for musicians, is involved in forest restoration in the Highlands and is training to be a Feldenkrais Method practitioner.
